In our 6 months of working together I gained a real understanding of how my body needs to be fuelled to support training for the London marathon. From knowing how to balance a plate of food depending on my training schedule, to what snacks to take on during runs, to the best recovery milkshake ever! Nothing was over complicated, so whilst Lucy explained the science and detail behind what we were working on it was translated in a way that was digestible (excuse the pun!) and understandable. It made the whole process seem far less daunting, which for me made actioning everything much easier.

Over the weeks leading up to the race Lucy helped me to practice and perfect my nutrition strategy for race day. Such great guidance on my marathon nutrition gave me huge confidence going into race day. I knew my body had all the resources it needed to excel. I could rely on the work we'd done leading up to the start line and just focus on getting the legs to move! Also massive shout out for the ‘race morning timetable’. It not only outlined when and what to eat, but what travel and arrival prep should look like on race day too. This really helped to keep me calm and focused on the day.

Lucy’s mantra for me was 'Dig Deep' and that I did... into many bowls of pasta! Where to start with Swell Health! I originally approached Lucy to see if nutrition could hold the key to a few different things. I’d been having a tough time with anxiety, chronic joint pain after running, and an ongoing bout of psoriasis which was really getting me down. 

I had a 10 minute chat with Lucy just to ask some questions about Swell Health and it was a real relief to talk to someone who could relate to me in a comforting manner and offer support from a place of experience. Lucy’s drive to help me was so refreshing, I immediately felt more energised and positive about my decision to be proactive about my health. 

In our first consultation, Lucy dug deep into the details of my health history. This part of the process was like a lightbulb moment. I hadn’t really clicked just how much nutrition could affect me on a daily basis until we unpacked my lifestyle in such detail. After 8 weeks following the first nutrition approach that Lucy designed for me, my anxiety had noticeably eased, and the joint pain and psoriasis had vanished. 

The most valuable part of my journey with Swell Health was being supported to understand which foods would help me to thrive and why. On top of everything else, I came to Lucy with a real ‘eat-punish-restrict’ mindset. It’s an on-going process and it’s taking practise, but I can now eat mindfully according to hunger/fullness without restrictions, and feel at peace with my food choices. Much of this is down to Lucy’s ability to explain nutrition science in simple terms which has really helped add an extra layer to my appreciation of food as friend, not foe.

I approached Lucy to help me with my every day nutrition and to address some energy level concerns I had.
