FAQs

I’m still a student at school/University. I want to take this step but I can't afford it. Do you offer a student discount?

I fully understand the pains of navigating life as a teenager with difficult skin and other health challenges! I believe that nutritional guidance should be accessible, regardless of your age or resources. So if you are under 21 (or a full time student), just let me know in your initial email and I promise to review my fee structure on a case-by-case basis. Let’s get to work on returning you to your best health.

What do all the letters after your name mean?

mBANT: As a member of the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT), I am required to have achieved the highest standards of integrity, knowledge, competence and professional practice. BANT is the UK's most highly recognised body for registered Nutritional Therapists.

CNHC: The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) is a government supported register of UK health practitioners. It’s approved as an Accredited Register by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care, a body accountable to Parliament. By registering with the CNHC, I am obliged to meet the highest standards of personal behaviour, technical competence and business practice.

What is the difference between a Registered Nutritional Therapist and a Dietician?

Registered Nutritional Therapists follow the Functional Medicine Model which priorities a ‘full picture’ approach to health. Their focus is ‘the application of nutrition science in the promotion of health, peak performance and individual care’. (BANT, 2014) The title is not yet protected by law, but NTs undergo a high level of training over 3-4 years, and are regulated by the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and a professional body such as the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT).

A Dietitian is someone who has a degree in Dietetics and the title is protected and regulated by law. They are recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the NHS. Dietitians are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and must be registered with the British Dietetic Association (BDA). As it stands, Dietitians are the only professionals in the field of nutrition who are ‘statutorily regulated’.

With qualifications and governance aside, NTs primarily work with individual clients, whereas Dieticians might work with individuals plus other groups including the NHS, the food industry, policy makers, universities and other industry stakeholders.

I’m training for a new adventure/sports pursuit. Can you help with nutrition to support my training as well as competition day nutrition?

Sports nutrition was my first love. It’s an area that I am constantly keeping tabs on for new research and strategies. As a life-long multi-disciplinary athlete myself, I understand the importance of tailoring sports nutrition for the individual and the event in question. Whether you’re looking for guidance in optimising training sessions and recovery, getting the edge in competition, or simply want to understand the difference between this protein powder and that funky supplement, I’m ready to get fully invested in your success.

I follow a vegan/vegetarian diet. Will you still be able to help me?

Absolutely. The beauty of bespoke nutrition is that you and your nutritional preferences are always at the forefront when I am designing a nutrition approach to support your health goals. Making sure that your vegan/vegetarian lifestyle choices are protected is as important to me as it is to you.

Are you going to suggest things that might impact my social life?

I consider health to encompass not only your physical wellbeing, but your emotional and social wellbeing too. I’m never going to recommend that you stop going out to eat with friends, or that you give up beer forever if those things make you happy! Working with you to reach your best health is my top priority, and this means working together to settle on a nutrition and lifestyle approach that you are comfortable with. Any suggestions I may make along these lines will always be presented with (excellent) alternatives.
